Assembly News for 8th November 2017

Assembly : Wednesday, 8th November 2017
Assembly was opened by Head of Department : The Arts, Ms Sara Abawi.
F1 in Schools Competition: Mr Jim Bishop explained to students how two of our Year 10 students became involved in the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge. Although these boys, Jackson Granzien and Andrew Williams were beaten when they competed in the regional competition, they were offered the opportunity to redesign their car and to compete in the state titles which were held at QUT Gardens Point campus in Brisbane last month. Both these boys certainly benefitted from the experience of attending the state titles because they ended up winning all categories including: Best Designed Poster, Best Engineered Car and Fastest Track Time with 1.18 secs over 25 metres (which equates to approximately 90 kilometres per hour). The boys were awarded overall state winners of Cadet Class beating 15 other teams. Mr Bishop and HSSC are extremely proud of these boys and their representation of the college at the F1 in Schools Competition.
Wednesday Afternoon Activities: Students were requested to meet in the undercover area at the beginning of Period 4 this afternoon before heading to their activity.
Values Certificates: Ms Illona Beningfield had the pleasure of presenting Values Certificates for Responsibility to some of our Business students for their contribution towards the preparation and delivery of platters at the Supper Club last Thursday night. Well done to Caitlin Wallace, Connor Gallen, Lachlan Bates, Oliver Hartin, Alicia Veal, Brayden Starr, Katie Thompson, Jacinta Snow, Lauren Thornton, Kristy Cameron Davies, Nadine Jones, William Wetherspoon, Matthew Levis, Campbell Adam, Jack Merrick and Kelly Wood.
Year 10 HPE Assignment: A Year 10 student (no media permission given) spoke requesting students to come along to a table tennis tournament next Monday lunch time where students and teachers will be competing.
Supper Club: Ms Barker told students what a fantastic evening we had last Thursday at our first ever Supper Club.  She was amazed at the quality of the performers (both students and staff) and the high standard of service and platters provided by the Business students.  Ms Barker congratulated all staff and students who were involved with the evening.
School Review: Ms Barker individually thanked all the students, staff and community members (totalling over 100) who were interviewed by the reviewers during our school review at the end of last term.  We received very positive feedback from the review.  The reviewers were very complimentary of our college and of what we have achieved in less than the three years we have been operating.  Ms Barker presented students who were interviewed with Values Certificates for representing our school values.
Year 7 Immunisation: These students were requested to remain behind after assembly as immunisations were occurring this morning.
Photographs from today’s assembly will appear in this week’s newsletter.
Assembly was closed by Mrs Victoria Menkins.
