Assembly News for 24th May 2017

24/05/2017
Assembly : Wednesday, 24th May 2017
Assembly was opened by Deputy Principal, Mr Dan Norris.
Open Day: Mr Norris thanked all the staff and students who gave up their time and helped with our Open Day held last Saturday. The day was a huge success and would not have been possible without the help and support of staff and students.  The students that performed the role of tour guides did an excellent job and certainly are the best ambassadors that HSSC can have.
Vocal Ensemble & Choir at CGEN Voices Competition: This week Mrs Barker and the deputies had the pleasure of attending the CGEN Voices Competition at the Highfields Cultural Centre where our Vocal Ensemble and Choir competed.  All our students performed brilliantly against Centenary Heights SHS, who were a much larger group than our group and contained many senior students. HSSC were awarded a gold certificate for their performance along with Centenary Heights SHS. We thank Ms Abawi for the fantastic job she has done preparing these students for this performance.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Mr Norris reminded students that the more involved they become in activities, whether they be sporting, cultural or any extra-curricular activities, then the more enjoyable their high school life will become.
Values Certificates: The following students were awarded Values Certificates over the past week –
Bailey Caldwell, Heath Michael, Macca Cox, Kate Beahan, Kristy Cameron Davies, Lauren Wood, Hannah Maunder, Natasha Scamp, Bella Martyr and Max Channell for demonstrating ‘Responsibility’ by participating in the Mime Group; and Kaeleb Elwell for demonstrating ‘Kindness’ by taking care of others by helping another student.
Participation Certificates: Participation Certificates were awarded to Mollie Scofield – Solid Pathways Program and Aleesha Burns – Indigenous Ambassador Program.
Well done and thank you to all these students for representing our College in such a positive way.
End of Term: As we head towards the end of term students need to be responsible for completing tasks and homework that is being set by teachers.  These tasks are designed to enhance learning within the classroom.  If you are absent due to illness you need to contact your teacher to allow extra time to complete these tasks.
Change of Subject Forms: Mr Norris is the only person who can hand these forms out and this only happens during the first two weeks of each semester.  These forms can only be accepted after you have met with Mr Norris and had discussions with him at the beginning of the semester.
Head of Department VET – Mrs Menkins
Highfields Youth Forum: Mrs Menkins requested all school leaders to remain behind after assembly. These students will be attending today’s forum to discuss the Highfields Master Plan future with Toowoomba Regional Council.
Photographs from today’s assembly will appear in this week’s newsletter.
Assembly was closed by Mr Norris.
