Assembly News for 15th March 2017

Assembly : Wednesday, 15th March 2017
Assembly was opened by Deputy Principal, Mrs Jayne Kennedy and the National Anthem was sung.
Values Certificate: Mrs Kennedy nominated and presented Riley Gibson with a Values Certificate for demonstrating ‘Kindness’ when taking care of others by showing genuine concern towards a gluten-free student during a recent red food day.  Riley’s thoughtfulness was certainly most appreciated.
Vivo Prize: Josh Togni was the only student presented with a Vivo prize this week.
Form Captain Badges: Erika Smith from FDCD and Samantha Holt from DO04 were presented with their badges.
Hospitality Students: Mrs Kennedy wanted to congratulate and publicly thank the Hospitality students who attended the Hampton Summer Long Lunch last month at Hampton.  These students did a magnificent job and were awarded with Values Certificates to thank them for their efforts. Congratulations to Amber Ole, Bianca Nieuwendaal, Dessa Munn, Meaghan Levis, Estelle Lancaster, Renae Green, Gage Doherty and Aleesha Burns.
Three Hospitality students, Lily, Amber and Chloe have also volunteered to assist at the Highfields Community Gunfire Breakfast on Anzac Day at 5:30am. Mrs Kennedy thanked these students for giving up their time for this community event.
School Property: Mrs Kennedy was disappointed at the lack of respect that some of our students are showing towards our new buildings.  This week there was an incident where ink had been smeared over the floor in K Block (K16) and the cleaners have had to use harsh solvents to remove the ink. Some of the room numbers have also been removed recently from K Block. Students were requested to report any incidents of this type immediately to their classroom teacher or a Deputy Principal as this is one of our school values - Taking Care of this Place.
Humanities Head of Department - Mr Tony Manteufel
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence - Friday, 17th March: This Friday we will be raising awareness against all forms of bullying and promoting inclusion for everyone.  Our House Captains have organised activities for students to participate in which are in a non-competitive environment. College Captains will also be available at a Help Desk for students to talk to/about bullying incidents and to offer advice.  More information regarding this will be provided in the Student Notices on Thursday and Friday mornings.
Students are encouraged to wear something orange for the day.  This day is not a fundraiser or free dress day so no money needs to brought to school.  Students are simply requested to wear something orange to help raise awareness.
HPE Head of Department – Mr Jamie Pukallus
Interschool Sport: This week all interschool sport has been cancelled due to wet weather. The oval at HSSC is also out of bounds for the next couple of days due to wet weather.  The bell times will be as per normal today and all interschool sport groups were notified of where to attend for Period 4. If any students were unsure of where to attend they were requested to see Mr Pukallus at lunchtime.
Tomorrow morning will be a Dunlop House assembly.
Photographs from this week’s assembly will appear in Friday’s newsletter.
Assembly was closed by Mr Pukallus.
