Assembly News Dated 14th February 2018

Assembly : Wednesday, 14th February 2018
Assembly was opened by Deputy Principal Mrs Jayne Kennedy.
Year 7 Email Filters: Mrs Kennedy informed students, including new Year 7 students, that all school emails are filtered. Any inappropriate content such as piracy, plagiarism or language will be flagged and forwarded to her for follow up.
Hats: Mrs Kennedy has commended students on the oval for wearing hats and encouraging other students to wear theirs. Students were thanked for showing respect to staff when implementing the hat policy.
Open Day Evening: Students interested in assisting at the Open Evening on Wednesday 28th March from 5-7pm were asked to see Mrs Kennedy at the end of assembly. Student participation contributes to extra-curricular points for awards night.
Value Certificates: Claire Case and Lauren Wood were awarded for Values Certificates for Kindness for looking after the school art gallery.
Swimming Carnival Age Championships: Mr Pukallus presented medals to the age champions from the Twilight Swimming Carnival. Dunlop House received the winning House trophy.
Heat Warning: Mr James informed the assembly that the heat policy has been implemented during the current heat wave. HPE practical lessons and Wednesday afternoon sports physical activities have been called indoors, with room allocations posted in the CPA.
Brisbane Lions: Mr James informed assembly that the Brisbane Lions are coming to HSSC next Monday to talk to the Step Squad. Any students interested in an AFL activity with the Lions on the oval must see Mr James first as numbers are limited.
Instrumental Music: Ms Abawi reminded students in the Instrumental Music Program to check their timetables. Only 60% of students have been showing up for lessons. Brass and Percussion are on a Wednesday, Strings and Woodwind are on Monday.
Josh Arnold – School Song: The choir and SRC are filming the Video Clip to go along with our new school song next week. Ms Abawi requested students to volunteer to take part in it.
Requirements: MUST have media permission, 10 students to play rugby, 5 students to play basketball. In particular, a student who can spin a basketball is needed.
